Mellen Street Graphics news

We won two awards!

Mellen Street Graphics has been given two awards of excellence by the Printing Industries of Virginia for our work on the Tibetan Monks 10th Anniversary Calendar and the 400 Years of Hampton Poster. Both projects were printed by Apollo Press.

We're settled into our new offices

We're in our new renovated building at 9 E. Mellen Street. The new location incorporates the design studio upstairs with ample room for display work along with all the other graphics projects. Downstairs, we have a retail lobby offering cards, custom invitations, announcements and some gift items, along with imprinted promotional products. We have the perfect corporate or hostess gift — personalized for that extra touch!

New Product Line

Mellen Street will launch a new product line in late fall — "Give Your Home a Name". What's it all about? Just like people name their boats and vacation houses, you can give your home a name as well. We'll walk you through the process of generating just the right name, then design your icon or embellishment with the name and send you a certificate with your personalized design on it. Plus — we offer your home name and design on signs, robes, aprons, ball caps, mugs and more! Stay tuned for our launching date.

May/June issue of Diversions

Jan Miller wrote an article about the upcoming move to 9 E. Mellen Street, and it was published in the May/June issue of Diversions. It announces the registered National Historic building status and shows a photograph on the inside wall on the second story of hand-lettered advertisement on what was once the exterior of the adjacent building. Typography + Environment

Staff designer Stacey Crawshaw and her husband Rob took part in Pecha-Kucha [peh-CHAK-cha] Night 2009 sponsored by AIA Hampton Roads and part of 2009 Architecture Week. They presented on Typography + Environment. Pecha-Kucha is a rapid-fire high energy event - architects… photographers… artists… designers… landscape architects… show their work in the built environment. Time to talk about the work; just not a whole lot of time, 10 presenters, 20 slides and 20 seconds per slide. Click on image for a larger view.

Community Participation

Staff Designer Stacey Crawshaw volunteered as an appraiser for the Hampton Roads Regional Destination ImagiNation Tournament on February 21, held in Virginia Beach. Destination ImagiNation (DI) is a community-based, non-profit, volunteer-driven educational organization that teaches young people from kindergarten through university-level the critical and creative thinking skills needed for success in the 21st Century.
